Staff at BICD

The staff here at BICD, represents the very best in their field, chosen carefully from many countries to enhance the experience of all students, fun divers or backpackers. We all have extensive experience spanning many years, with the drive to create dreams for all those interested. Please have a look at the incredible range of people working here.

RebeccaRebecca Engel, Manager here at BICD! The rock behind the scenes; a quiet professional who is able to set the company apart from all others. Originally from the States, she was raised on Utila and has an extensive bank of knowledge about the island and it's culture. PADI Certified at 11, she is a natural in the water and loves diving. A strong leader, that believes in leading by example, being the first to offer assistance, should it ever be needed. Always smiling and laughing, always enjoying the challenges that she faces every day and always organizing every detail to ensure a fabulous experience for everyone.

Vanessa Ramsay, Instructor. With this one we really invested in body and brains. And it pays off! Born and raised an island girl on Vancouver Island, she fits right in on Utila. She's warm, welcoming and an amazing talker. You'll share many a beer with this Canadian on our weekly Barbeques! Whether you want to learn about reef conservation or which colour free t-shirt looks best, she's got it covered, hay.

Nick Derutter, Instructor. Look, we'll be honest here... he's from "Belgium" and we're still not quite sure where that is or if it's even a country that actually exists. He speaks Dutch, French, English, Spanish and German so it's kind of hard to pinpoint where that so-called "country" would be. Untill we get a chance to google it, he's living here. No, really... he is ALWAYS here and teaches our courses with verve in about every language except for binary code (and he'd probably still give that a try if you asked). Wherever you're from, you can be sure he'll be able to transform you into the best diver you can possibly be.

Stacy Wagstaff, Instructor. This is Stacy. Stacy is from New Zealand. That's like Australia, but smaller and colder and they don't use the word 'mate' all the time. That's nice! She also speaks a little bit of Maori, for all those kiwi travelers who feel a little bit home sick. She has dive experience from all over the world, including places such as Mexico, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and Australia (that's like New Zealand but bigger and warmer and they use the word 'mate' all the time). Come and do the underwater PUKANA!

Seth Escobar, Captain. We once tried coming to The College really, really early... and still, Seth was alread here, taking care of our fleet. Rumour has it he was scheduled to test drive the Titanic but thought it to be a bad idea and refused the offer. That's when we knew this man knows his boats! He drives them as if it's an art form with unprecedented precision, professionalism and fun. Whenever you're on his boat, you can be sure never to be bored!
