Why Bay Island College of Diving for your PADI IDC?

We at BICD are proud of our continuing reputation for giving professional quality tuition since first starting 12 years ago. As a PADI 5 Star Career Development Centre we have reached the pinnacle of diver training; we were the first to be awarded this honor in Honduras and continue to set the standard for all dive operations on Utila. We have received numerous certificates of recognition for excellence over the years. We consider Safety as our number one concern so much so that we put money where our mouth is and have constructed Utila’s only Hyperbaric and trauma unit.

We run the most dynamic, updated PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) in Central America, keeping you always on the cutting edge.

With state of the art full multimedia computerised classrooms: laptops, LCD projectors, video etc. By teaching the very latest PADI Courses as soon as they are released and by using all the very latest PADI materials as soon as they become available, we ensure that your PADI Instructor Development experience is the most updated, comprehensive and professional available...!!!

Our IDCs produce unmatched success rates year after year with our IDC candidates regularly scoring way above average!

Our comprehensive IDC includes:

A 10 Day Expanded IDC Program

Although PADI requires an IDC to have a minimum duration of 7 days we have found some extra presentations and workshops highly beneficial to our candidates' success. To accommodate these extra presentations, workshops, we have found a 10 day program more suitable.

Extra workshops include: Theory, Required skills, Ascents & Descents, Buoyancy control, Buddy Breathing both swimming and stationary, Controlled Emergency Swimming Ascent (CESA), Rescue Exercise #7 and Student Control, both under water and at the surface.

Whilst our program is intense and demanding, we guarantee you they will also be both fun and enjoyable.

We work hard to keep this an efficient and relaxed program, important because people are most receptive to learning and perform their best in a low stress environment.

Small Classes = Personal Attention!!!

BICD are proud of their IE Pass Rate: one of the ways this fantastic Pass Rate has been maintained has been by limiting class sizes to no more than 8 IDC Candidates per IDC!!

It is only by limiting Candidate numbers that a Course Director can spend the necessary time and personal attention that YOU NEED and deserve to fully develop your abilities during an IDC.

Our highly qualified and experienced staff are dedicated to YOUR IDC program and are available 24 hrs a day to answer any queries or questions you might have.

Extra remedial lectures and workshops are ALWAYS available and are scheduled during the evenings as required.

IE Pass Guarantee!!!

Due to the continued success rate of our comprehensive PADI IDC programs on Utila, we are happy to offer you the following guarantee:

"In the unlikely event you should fail any area of the IE, after having attended our IDC (including the IDC Prep course), you will be invited to attend, one on one, remedial classes with our Course Director on the area you failed, in readiness for your next IE and if needed our next (or any other) IDC free of charge”

PLEASE NOTE: this offer has NEVER been needed as to date we have only ever had one candidate be unsuccessful at their FIRST IE!!!

NEW IDC dedicated Training Area!!!

All our Instructor Development takes place within Bay Islands College of Diving 5 Career Development Centre (CDC), Just 5 minute walk from the ferry terminal and a 5 minute taxi ride from the Airport.

All The IDC classroom presentations take place in our NEW IDC dedicated Training Area with purpose built fully computerized classrooms: complete with state of the art technology and full multimedia support: PCs, LCD projector, video, TV as well as air conditioning, white boards, slide projectors etc.

Located on site is our purpose built swimming pool, perfect for the IDC Confined Water training.

Our IDC Staff and Languages

BICD teaches its IDC programs in English.

The main reason is that because the dive industry is such a huge, diverse and truly international business, although you might plan to teach only in your native language, chances are you’re going to find yourself doing a lot of teaching in English.

Our aim is to prepare you for this from the beginning.

Although the IDC will be taught in English, our multi-lingual staff can help with any particular tricky translation.

Staff languages currently include French, Spanish, German, Swedish and Danish.

Should you wish to give a presentation during the IDC or the IE in your own language, with prior notice we can arrange for a suitable translator. You are however encouraged to give your presentations in English.

If you have any doubts about language please don't worry – just contact us

 PADI Oxygen Provider Course included!!!

Unfortunately it is a sad fact that divers do suffer accidents and as we are all aware the primary first aid procedure for diving related accidents is oxygen provision.

What is alarming is that a large percentage of dive professionals, both Divemasters and Instructors, have NEVER received training in this field and are untrained in oxygen administration.

We have integrated the PADI Oxygen Provider Course into our comprehensive IDC program.

….including all course materials and certification fees!

Mandatory for Instructors and Divemasters in most countries throughout the world - this course gives candidates a basic knowledge for the practical administration of oxygen using various delivery systems and masks.

PADI Enriched Air or Emergency First Response Instructor, you decide, included FOC!!!

PADI’s Enriched Air Specialty Course is by far their most popular, why miss out on the opportunity to teach this course from the start? If you are already a “nitrox” diver then you can upgrade to an EANx Instructor and it won’t cost you anything, if not why not take advantage of our “Nitrox prep day” and become one.

Alternatively why not include Emergency First Response Instructor to your list of Instructor Qualifications; again it broadens your employment possibilities. With the new PADI Rescue course requirement of a CPR/1st Aid qualification within the previous 24 months before Training session 2, why turn potential students away because you can’t offer them the complete “Package”. So if you meet one of the following criteria you can enroll in the EFR Instructor course:

·         Have EFR Primary, Secondary care, and Care for children, taken within the last 24 months

·    Current CPR/1st Aid Instructor with another “recognized” organization or

·    A practicing medical professional.

If you would like to enroll on this course but don’t have the required prerequisites or they have lapsed just click here to find out how to gain them.

Why not take both of them and be even more employable!!!!

With one of the above courses for free how can you not afford to take both??????

PADI Instructor Level Continuing Education Courses available post IE

Support during your IE

Most Course Directors and IDC Centers do not accompany their candidates during the Instructor Examination.

Although we know that our job is over and your preparation is complete at the end of our IDC, we also take care of all the logistics during your IE. Your Course Director will accompany you throughout the entire IE program.

This guarantees that you can concentrate 100% on your IE without wasting time worrying about paperwork, payments, transport, equipment and the like.

Looking for work as a PADI instructor...?!?!?

Should we not be able to find work for you within our own operations, we will help you find positions either through our extensive contacts in Central America or throughout the rest of the world.

We also offer a free CV and employment workshop “make your CV standout to your prospective employers” and know where to look for that “dream job”. Remember, the best way to stand out is through continuing your Instructor level education and be able to offer the dive center’s customers more which means both the dive centre and you make more money!!
