Getting to Utila...

Utila can be reached by either ferry service or small airline service from the mainland port of La Ceiba. La Ceiba is not an international airport and you will need to connect from either of the main cities in Honduras; San Pedro Sula (airport code: SAP) or Tegucigalpa (airport code: TGU). Both cities are located on the mainland with regular service from the US, Mexico and other hubs in Central America.

Once you have reached either San Pedro Sula or Tegucigalpa you may choose to continue to La Ceiba by flight or bus. The airlines are listed below and are the same ones that will take you all the way to Utila.

If you prefer a more leisurely pace you can take the bus from either SPS or TGU all the way to La Ceiba and continue to Utila by ferry with the Utila Princess. The best bus company we have used is Hedman Alas, you will find the link with the schedule for the Utila Princess listed below. You will need to take a taxi from the bus depot to the ferry terminal, about $3.

If you need to over night in La Ceiba there is an affordable, clean and centrally located B&B named Banana Republic www.jungleriverlodge.com They also run an exciting Jungle Adventure Company that you may want to check out for white water river rafting or canopy tours. They also have accommodation in the mountains outside of La Ceiba.
