Only Hyperbaric Chamber In Utila

Our onsite facility is the only trauma center and Hyper Baric chamber on the island. Staffed by trained and certified volunteers, we are prepared to handle diving accidents from the entire island.  Rest assured that if you are diving with us, either taking a course or fun diving, you are diving with the best.  Don't just take our word, check out the Lonely Planet travel  guide "Central America on a Shoestring" which states  “...Bay Islands College of Diving, the best school and the only five star rated  PADI training facility...”

Chamber Orientation Course

Decompression Illness (DCI) is mentioned briefly in Open Water and later in other courses. We know that most divers don’t really understand DCI and it’s treatment. We have designed this course as a way to educate divers about DCI. We feel confident that upon completion of this course, divers will have a much broader understanding of DCI, signs and symptoms, treatment and, most importantly, the prevention of it.

What we will cover in our orientation course:

  • Predisposing Conditions
  • Contributing Factors
  • Mechanism
  • Signs, symptoms, and treatment

Goals of this course:

  • Explain how DCI works, what causes it, and what it looks like
  • List benefits of early recognition and treatment
  • Explain recompression and Hyper Baric Oxygen Therapy
  • Identify various treatment schedules
  • Practical application
