Safety, dive medical education and research with the
Utila Hyperbaric Chamber
The Hyperbaric chamber @ the
Bay Islands College of Diving is the only one on
Utila and is a Diver Alert Network recognized
facility.
The Utila Chamber is run by
Marjorie Young a registered Honduran Nurse. Marjorie
is also a ear specialist trained in barotraumas
medicine. The Utila Chamber works closely with
Dr John McVay from the Utila Community Clinic
and the rest of the staff at the BICD includes
Hyperbaric Chamber Technicians, Trainers and
Operators.
We sponsor a yearly intern
from the
Divers Alert Network who assists with the
Chamber and gathers data for the research DAN does
into diving accidents and medicine.
We offer the complete DAN
student and Instructor level courses, as well as
Emergency First Response programs. We train our
students in Dive Emergency Management Provider,
Hyperbaric Chamber Tender and Recompression Chamber
Operator. We offer a Hyperbaric Chamber Course
for those who would like to learn more about our
facility.
