HOW DO I GET TO UTILA?
You’ll figure it out…
Just kidding! Let us help you:There are 3 main international airports that you can fly into if you are planning to arrive to the country by air. San Pedro Sula, Tegucigalpa, and Roatan.
From Tegucigalpa or San Pedro, you can catch flights on local airlines, to La Ceiba or directly to Utila. We can help organize this.
Your other option which is less expensive, would be to catch a bus to La Ceiba and jump on the ferry to Utila that departs at 9am and 4:30 pm.
If you chose to travel through Roatan, you have 2 options:
You can take a local flight directly to Utila or go by ferry via La Ceiba.
Once on the island, finding us is very simple! Turn left at the end of the pier walkway and follow the road for 300 yards. On your left you will see a huge building with a whale shark painted on it. Come inside and our staff will look after your every need.
Preferrably, if you let us know of your arrival beforehand, we will arrange to have a taxi waiting for you at the pier to bring you and your luggage to your hotel where a refreshing beer awaits you!
IS IT SAFE TO LAND IN TEGUCIGALPA, SAN PEDRO SULA OR LA CEIBA?
These cities are not as bad as what many newspapers suggest, however they are big and busy cities so its always good to be careful.
Use taxi’s to get around and if you will be staying overnight it would be better to have a hotel booked.
There are also some beautiful places to go while you are there so don’t hesitate to look some of them up!
Hotel recommendations in San Pedro Sula: Villa Nuria (Comfort option) or Hostal Tamarindo (Economy option).
Hotel recommendations for Tegucigalpa are Hotel Alameda (Comfort Option) or Hotel Tegucigalpa (Economy option)
Recommendations for La Ceiba are Hotel Catracho. For 450 lps you can get a room with A/C and have access to a pool! (Comfort option) Also Banana Republic (Economy option)
Even though these are options for both the economic traveller and those wishing to stay in more comfortable accommodations, still be aware that you are in large cities so always be cautious of your surroundings.
WHEN CAN I START A DIVE COURSE?
We don’t pre schedule courses. When ever there is a person or a group interested in taking a course, the instructor will get the person or group together and make a schedule that works for everyone. It is always better to make a reservation if you wish to stay in the hotel or if you have a tight schedule.
DO THE DIVE COURSES OR FUNDIVES INCLUDE ACCOMMODATION?
We offer free accommodation in the dorms if you are taking a dive course or doing a fundives at BICD.
If dorms aren’t your style then you can always upgrade to a private room or appartment at a discounted rate.
The divers rate applies everyday that you dive at the College.
HOW MANY PEOPLE DO YOU TAKE PER COURSE/PER DIVEMASTER?
We like to have max 6 people per instructor. Generally it is 3-5. Smaller classes help get through the course smoothly and more quality time with the instructor.
When fundiving the divemasters will guide the dives. We keep the maximum amount of 8 fun divers per dive master.
I HAVEN’T GOT MY CERTIFICATION CARD YET, IS IT POSSIBLE TO CHECK IF IT WENT THROUGH?
Yes it is. You can check your certification at this link
There you type in your info and if you have been certified your record will show up. If you don’t see your record it could mean your card got lost in the mail or is still on route.
If you would like another one sent out to you you can order one from the same website. When you look yourself up be sure to type in the name you used when signing up for the course. (this might require your middle initial)
If you still can’t find it then you can always e mail us at [email protected] and we can look further into it for you.
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DM COURSE? HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO COMPLETE THE COURSE?
The Dive Master internship can be done in 4 to 6 weeks if you follow a strict schedule and if you have already all the requirements necessary. In BICD we have divemaster orientation course on Sundays, this is the first step to start the internship.
PADI’s DM Course Requirements:

IS THERE ANYTHING PARTICULAR I SHOULD BRING TO THEISLAND?
Bring OFF or any product with deet. Depending on the time of the year, there might be a lot of sandflies. You wont get malaria or dengue, son don’t you worry, but some people have some type of allergic reaction to the bites so its always good to have a back up. Baby oil is also a good option against sand.
