Underwater Photography Internship

Have you ever dreamed of becoming a Professional Dive Photographer?

The underwater photography internship is designed and focused on the dive professional who wants to learn the skills and experience that will set you up for a career within the dive industry! The focus of this internship is to give you an extensive overview of photo, video, lighting and editing techniques used to create a professional workflow of media. You will hone your current abilities to capture images from your dives.

During the internship you will learn how to take underwater portraits of divers, wide-angle reef scapes and creative macro pictures and videos. You will be using a compact professional and powerful Mirrorless camera along with a professional aluminum alloy housing. For lighting, you will learn how to use both strobes and LED’s by Kraken Sports lights.  These powerful LED lights give you a continuous, strobe, red and UV setting.  Various other cameras, lenses, housings, ports, and lights will also be available for your skills mastery.

  • Advanced underwater photographer/ videographer (or equivalent) 
  • Master Scuba Diver, Divemaster, or above (or equivalent)
  • Self-Reliant diver (or equivalent)
  • 100+ dives (before you complete the Self-Reliant course)

Cost

The videography / photography internship will teach you how to select the right equipment before the dive, how to take the best pictures and videos on the dive, editing, and post-production mastery. Projects and equipment needed will be discussed and prepared before each day of diving. Projects will vary from Shipwrecks, divers, animals, and so much more!  Before the end of this course, you will have used multiple cameras, lens, and lights.  Ultimately by the end, you will be able to dive self-reliant and photograph multiple dive groups and courses.

After the dives, you will view, edit and discuss the day’s work with your instructor and learn to edit and produce them for display in The Utila Lodge and on our social media pages! Thus allowing you to create and add a portfolio with proven success and the backing of both the Bay Islands College of Diving a PADI 5 Star Career Development Center and The Utila Lodge resort!

Here at the College of Diving, we are responsible for training the highest level of professionals of tomorrow. Our training focuses on PADI Scuba Instructors, PADI Divemasters, Marine Conservation Leaders, and Marine Conservation Leaders!This internship is based on creating a mentorship with your instructor.  The Instructor and dive staff will be regularly available to answer your questions and help you produce content that will build an amazing portfolio! Previous underwater photography is required but you do not need to be an expert to begin the internship.

A custom program will be built around your current underwater imaging skills enabling you to maximize your skills. During this course, you will be taking pictures and videos underwater like you’ve never taken before! Just imagine yourself getting the perfect macro shot of a Blenny, to wide-angle group shots of divers. You will leave with a diverse portfolio of underwater media and all the skills to work as an underwater photographer/videographer at any dive center.

Emergency situations directly related to underwater photography/videography. Self-Reliant diver is a requirement to finish and can be incorporated into this course.  Safety is very important especially with underwater photography/videography.  We will cover topics directly related to underwater imaging and the safety of the divers, yourself and the reef around you. With the addition of the Self Reliant diver certification, this will set you apart as a Professional Photographer that any dive shop will value!
