PADI Specialty courses are a way for you to explore new and exciting activities to participate in while diving. PADI Specialties open the door to new adventures. These certifications can be earned over 1 – 2 days and can be combined to suit your interests and even achieve the prestigious Master Scuba Diver certification, the highest recreational level in the PADI system.

PADI Full Face Mask Diver ($299/2 Dives)

 

The ability to communicate underwater is amazing. Add to that the benefits of avoiding jaw fatigue, increased convenience in overall fit of the mask and you know why this course is for you. Full Face Mask use is also becoming essential for Adaptive Divers with severe mobility impairments. You will learn:

  • How to assemble and take care of our OTS Guardian Full Face Masks (special deals available)

  • Techniques for removing, replacing and clearing the mask.

  • Out of air situations with a full face mask.

  • Preparation, use and post-dive care of the Buddyphone underwater radio system.
     

PADI Adaptive Techniques ($299/2 Dives)

 

Have you ever wanted to make a difference, and share your passion with others? The Adaptive Diver speciality is one of the most rewarding programs in the PADI curriculum. During this course you will learn to overcome situations that would be difficult for divers with a range of physical and or mental disabilities.

  • Empathy training both on land and in confined conditions

  • 2 boat dives simulating the dive partner and adaptive divers challenges

  • Techniques to make diving safe and accessible to everyone
     

PADI Field Neurological Examiner ($125/1 day)

 

This unique distinctive speciality focuses on identifying and assisting both victims and emergency first responders. In addition to identifying physical and cognitive concerns you will learn how to provide a safe and easy transition for the Emergency First Responders to control. The course runs 1 day and is completed entirely in the classroom.

  • Training focused on aiding and assisting a victim

  • Learning to identify where and what the primary concern is with the victim

  • Assisting medical professionals with a jump start on victims condition upon their arrival
     

PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider ($135/1 Day)

 

The Emergency Oxygen Provider speciality focuses on the various types of equipment used to provide a victim with oxygen safely. The course is designed to increase your skills and knowledge from the Emergency First Responder course.

  • Learning how to identify and use different masks depending on the demand

  • In depth training with assembly / disassembly of oxygen kits

  • Confidence and skills enhancement through repetition
     

PADI Sidemount Diver ($399/3 Dives)

 

This specialty course finds it roots in cave diving, is one of PADI’s newest courses and is gaining popularity fast! During this course you will learn:

  • How to assemble and take care of specialized sidemount diving equipment

  • Techniques to move more freely with less strain on the back

  • Advanced gas management that allows you to dive longer

  • Sidemount set-up can also be used for wreck diving or cave diving

  • Base skills development for Tec Sidemount
     

PADI Enriched Air (Nitrox/EANx) Diver $215/2 EANx tanks)

 

This specialty is PADI’s most popular specialty course. Scuba diving with enriched air (nitrox) gives you more no decompression dive time, which means more time underwater, especially on repetitive scuba dives. During this course you will learn:

  • Techniques for getting more dive time by using enriched air nitrox

  • Enriched air scuba diving equipment considerations

  • Enriched air considerations, including oxygen exposure, gas analysis and dive computer use
     

PADI Deep Diver ($230/4 Dives)

 

Although there is plenty to see above 60 feet/18 meters, most divers want to explore the deeper parts of the ocean after they feel comfortable with the scuba experience. There’s a sense of mystique and adventure to deep diving! The only way to fully experience the breathtaking view of a deep wall is by being deep and looking up to see the sun radiating above the wall. During this course you will learn:

  • Techniques for diving in the deeper range of 18-40 metres/ 60-130 feet

  • Deep scuba diving equipment considerations

  • Narcosis management

  • Emergency decompression procedures
     

PADI Wreck Diver ($230/4 Dives)

 

Whether sunk on purpose as an artificial reef or the result of mishap, wrecks are fascinating to explore. Not only do they provide divers with a window into history but they are also often teeming with aquatic life. Taking this course will help you become a safe and responsible wreck diver. During this course you will learn:

  • Techniques for exploring shipwrecks and how to avoid common hazards

  • How to research and learn the background of your favourite wrecks

  • Wreck scuba diving equipment considerations

  • How to map a wreck in preparation for penetration

  • Penetration and reeling techniques to allow safe entry into and exit out of wrecks
     

COMBO! Nitrox & Wreck OR Deep ($399/4 Dives)

 

Combine two of PADI’s most popular specialties and further push your limits with this fantastic deal. These specialties are the most popular because they are the most applicable! All around the world there are deep walls and gorgeous wrecks with EANx allowing us to explore them for longer!
 

PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Diver ($169/2 Dives)

 

Divers who have mastered the highest performance levels in buoyancy stand apart. You’ve seen them underwater. They glide effortlessly, use less air, and hover almost instinctively. They interact gently with aquatic life and don’t disturb their surroundings. YOU could be that kind of diver! This course will help you master buoyancy so that you can enjoy your diving experiences with much less effort. During this course you will learn:

  • How to trim your scuba gear so you’re perfectly balanced in the water

  • Nuances in determining weight so you’re not too light nor too heavy by even a slight degree

  • How to streamline to save air and move smoothly through the water

  • How to hover effortlessly in both a vertical position and a horizontal position
     

PADI Drift Diver ($169/2 Dives)

This course shows you how to enjoy rivers and strong ocean currents by “going with the flow,” staying with your dive partner, communicating with the dive boat, and knowing where you are the whole time. Drift Diving is nearly effortless, since you simply glide along and enjoy the rush of flying underwater while the current does the work. During this course you will learn:

  • Planning, organization, procedures, techniques, problems and hazards of drift diving

  • An introduction to drift diving equipment — floats, lines, reels

  • Buoyancy-control, navigation and communication for drift diving

  • Site selection and overview of aquatic currents – causes and effects

  • Techniques for staying close to a buddy or together as a group
     

PADI Digital Underwater Photography ($189/2 Dives)

 

This PADI specialty is an introduction to capturing underwater photos and videos.  Underwater photography and videography is one of the most popular specialties.  It is the best way to keep the memories alive after your dives. You will get going quickly with today’s modern digital equipment, through our professional Videographer! This is a 1-2 day course.

  • Techniques related to animal / diver pictures

  • Buoyancy control while using a camera

  • Adjusting settings for different shots during the dive

  • Lighting and angle techniques for best results
     

PADI AWARE – Fish Identification ($169/2 Dives)

 

You’ll find you enjoy your dives even more when you recognize the creatures that you see. This course provides you with the fish identification basics you’ll need to know in order to be able to recognize the different fish you see. During this course you will learn:

  • How to identify characteristics of local fish families and species

  • Fish survey techniques and strategies

  • How to practice fish identification dive planning, organization and procedure
     

PADI Search & Recovery Diver ($215/4 Dives)

 

It can be very frustrating when you drop some equipment during a dive and can’t remember where you lost it. In this course you will learn effective ways to find objects underwater and bring them to the surface. Small, large or just awkward, there is a way to bring them up. During this course you will learn:

  • Search and recovery dive planning, organization, procedures, techniques and how to deal with potential problems

  • How to locate large and small objects using search patterns

  • How to use a lift bag and other recovery methods

  • Limited visibility search techniques
     

PADI Self-Reliant ($399/3 Dives)

 

This is a unique and specialized course that focuses on diving with redundant systems and executing proper dive planning to safely end any dive. Self-Reliance is an essential tool for dive professionals and of particular importance to photographers and videographers. The course itself begins with theory, followed by 3 training dives over 2 days!

  • Becoming self sufficient in the event of an emergency

  • Learning to plan and execute dives safely if there is buddy separation

  • Redundant systems incase of failures during a dive

PADI Equipment Specialist ($99/1 Day)

 

Have you ever wanted to expand your knowledge of equipment and general repairs / maintenance? This speciality is designed to educate over a variety of equipment styles, maintenance, knowledge, and general repairs.

  • Learning how to clean and maintain gear

  • How various components of your dive gear is made

  • Hands on Scuba tank inspections

  • How to compare and recommend gear for yourself or fellow divers

  • Learning how to make general repairs
     

PADI Underwater Navigation $199/2 Dives)

 

Have you ever wondered how the pro’s always seem to find their way back to a starting point? This speciality will teach you to dive just like them! From using natural references to compass patterns you will become a confident under water navigator! This course begins with theory and followed by 2 dives!

  • Learning natural navigation references

  • Learning several compass patterns

  • Kick cycle & elapsed time as tools for navigation
     

PADI Gas Blender ($169/1 Day)

 

Working with and blending multiple gases allows you to fill your own blends just how you want it! This is a great introduction into Technical Diving gas mixtures and for those who want work and live the dive life.

  • Filling and inspection of 21 % tanks

  • Filling and blending of multiple gases such as Enriched Air / Oxygen

  • Compressor cleaning and understanding of different systems

  • Oxygen cleaning of parts and supplies
     

PADI Project AWARE Coral Reef Conservation ($99/1 Day)

 

Here is your chance to learn more about the coral reef systems, not only here in Utila but throughout the world! A portion of the cost is donated  by Padi to Project Aware for conservation efforts! This 1 day course is a great way to expand your knowledge and background!

  • Learn to be a Coral Reef Ambassador with overall knowledge

  • Identifying what coral is and how to protect it

  • How we can help preserve the reef’s ecosystem
     

PADI Invasive Lionfish Tracker ($169/2 Dives)

 

This speciality focuses on documenting and recording of the invasive species, here in the Caribbean. Learn to identify characteristics and habitats that would allow Lionfish to reproduce and survive.
